HD Construction Machinery unveils the world’s largest 22-liter hydrogen engine

HD Construction Equipment, scheduled to be established in January next year, will unveil its 22-liter large hydrogen engine for the first time at South Korea’s largest hydrogen industry exhibition.

HD Construction Equipment announced on December 3 that it will participate in the World Hydrogen Expo 2025 (WHE 2025), to be held from December 4 to 7 at KINTEX in Ilsan, Seoul. WHE 2025 is South Korea’s leading hydrogen energy industry event, and starting this year, the Hydrogen International Conference and the industrial exhibition H2… The MEET event, combining various technologies, is expanding in scale. 250 companies from 20 countries, including major South Korean companies, and overseas companies from the US, Germany, and the UK, participated in the exhibition, which is expected to attract over 30,000 visitors. The company will showcase its hydrogen engine technology portfolio covering mobility and power generation, planning to jointly display the 11-liter HX12 hydrogen engine for automobiles and power generation, and the 22-liter large hydrogen engine HX22 for power generation, demonstrating key development achievements. In particular, the 22-liter hydrogen engine, with its V12 cylinder structure, has a maximum output of 600 kW (816 hp) and a continuous output of 477 kW (649 hp), making it currently… The world’s largest hydrogen engine, the HX22, has an output capable of meeting the annual electricity needs of approximately 200 households. Last month, the HX22 successfully completed its first ignition ceremony at the Gunsan factory, officially entering the demonstration phase of a large-scale carbon-free hydrogen engine. The performance and durability of the HX12 have been verified through over 1,500 hours of demonstration operation with a hydrogen engine generator and installation tests on large freight trucks and excavators. The goal for the HX12 is mass production by the end of next year (2026). Commercialization of hydrogen-powered trucks (2027), hydrogen-powered generators (2029), and hydrogen-powered excavators (2030) is also being gradually advanced.
